Professor Oliver Boyd-Barrett

Dr. Oliver Boyd-Barrett (on the right in the photo) is shown here during a visit to Taipei (Taiwan) in 2013 where he delivered a keynote presentation to a conference at the Chinese Cultural University. Boyd-Barrett is an expert in media studies, whose specialisms include international media; international news flows; international and national news agencies; media, war and propaganda; media political economy; Hollywood and the press.


Boyd-Barrett was full professor in the Department of Journalism and Public Relations in the School of Media and Communications at Bowling Green State University, Ohio 2005-2013. He was School Director from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that he was full professor in the Department of Communication at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (2001-2005).


A Professor Emeritus of both Bowling Green State University, Ohio and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Boyd-Barrett currently (2015) lectures for the Department of Communication at California State University, Channel Islands and for the Department of Communication at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.


Previous posts held by Dr. Boyd-Barrett include Associate Dean of the College of the Extended University, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (1998-2001); Director of Distance Learning for the Centre for Mass Communication Research, at the University of Leicester (U.K.)(1994-1998) and Associate Dean of the School of Education at the Open University (U.K.)(1990-1994).
